I remember a scene from The Simpsons where Homer was stealing cable from the nearby cable post. To cut the long story short, Homer learned the lesson of not stealing and he decided to cut the cables away.
As of all things Homer, he always manage to screw things up and to make a complete arse out of himself. There were 3 cable on the post. 2 live wires and only one is the correct cable. Homer chooses the left most cable which is a live wire. He gets himself electrocuted and suffers immense pain. He rests for 3 seconds and think, hmmm, maybe this time it will work and cut the same cable again. As predicted, he gets electrocuted again.
Not giving up, being the super persistent Homer, he persists on. But over and over again, he picks the same cable hoping that it will work. It was pretty funny to see him getting electrocuted over and over again.
But enough of the story. How does it relate to our real life, specifically pertaining to Internet Marketing? Are we guilty of committing the Homer-Act? Do the same thing, fail and repeat the same thing, hoping that it will work the next round?
Now don’t laugh thinking that it will never happen to you. It still happens to me sometimes. No, I’m serious. For example, I know that eating that chocolate waffle will make me gain weight. But I still repeat the same process. Yes, it’s not IM-related, but I’m sure you get the picture.
Whenever we get frustrated on certain things, whether in IM or not, we always need to take a step back and to re-evaluate the situation. Are our methods wrong? Are there better methods? How can I achieve the same results with lesser effort? We must always answer this question.
I’ve seen a lot of people beginning IM or any other areas (me included), doing the same wrong step, expecting to see a different results.
I remember Einstein saying this. Insanity, is doing the same thing over and over again, and expecting a different results.
So now, are you guilty of it?
Do it again, maybe this time it will work… :p
Cheers,
