One fine morning on 5th May 2007, I dropped a small not-so-heavy thing on my notebook.
Although IBM T60 has boasted on their hard disk protection technology and almost like there is no way you can spoil your hard-disk before of the real-time notebook monitoring system.
But what happened? I find that there’s nothing forceful with the impact. From a 30cm drop and the weight is not even that heavy and suddenly, my harddisk is giving out soon. After a few attempts to boot up my notebook, it finally gave a black screen of death.
It said “Notebook hard disk error” Please “Ctl-Alt-Delete to reboot”
Sigh….
The worst thing is, I’m training in KL with Stuart right now.
I called the IBM technical support, guess what? They don’t open on sundays and the earliest time they can call me is on Monday….
Man… My data is soooo precious to me. I bought an IBM because that it’s a business machine and it’s promise on data protection. Oh well, I guess Murphy won again.
Nevertheless, as a POE graduate, I’ll do my best to salvage the situation and do whatever it takes to save my data!
After applying all the solution-focused strategies, I’m sure there’s nothing more I can do, so…
I’m writing this rant just to bitch and curse and swear about this unfortunate incident….
Now, I’ll be applying the law of attraction and attract a healthy working laptop by the time I get back to singapore and send it for repair.
Perhaps they would say sorry and give me a x60 instead! hoho…
Cheers,
Ming Chern
Poor tofu… muahaha
Don’t you know there’s a thing call “external hardisk” and another thing call “backup”?
Forget about their real time monitoring friend. Backing up is the safest way to go!
Learnt this from past experience ;p
Oh bad luck Ming Chern….. hope you get it fixed soon. Maybe next time you should do external back up to play safe. I have external hard disk myself and luckily my Toshiba also have back up hard disk (i got 2 hard disk remember? hee hee)so if C drive crash i still got D drive
Get Toshiba!!!
Oh dear… your T60 is only about 6 month’s old. Passed out so fast!!! Gosh…
After this incident, do make it a must to do regular backup of your data.
Through my experience, I have developed the habit of backing up my data regularly to multiple types of medias. Kiasu right, well, it’s always better to be safe.
Cheers…
Hi everyone,
thanks for your advice…
Well, the thing is, i did backup, but it’s not the latest. My portable hard disk is with my friend who refused/denied returning me for a long long long time that resulted me not doing my periodic backup…
Sigh…
Shit happens, lost alot of important data…
WTF!!!
sianz,
Ming
