Technical Coach Series: Creating a PDF file

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

This is the continuation of my technical coach series to Kate’s question on how to create a download-able pdf file.

In these question, there are basically few things to learn.
1) How to create a PDF file
2) How to FTP your file up
3) How to identify your link for people to download.

Take my blog header for example:
You can download it here.
This will be what we are simulating to create a link for your readers to download.

Step ONE:
Now, to create a PDF file, the fastest way is to install a program called PrimoPDF. It’s free to download and install.
Here is how you would use it. After you’ve finished typing your content in Microsoft Word. All you need to do is to PRINT the document and choose the printer:PrimoPDF. There would then be a popup window asking you on where to save it to.
This is basically it. You’ve created a PDF.

Step TWO:
The next thing to do is to FTP the file up to your hosting server. For those who want a good hosting, I would recommend Blue Host (Click here to find out), i’m using it rite now and you can be assured of its reliability. :)
Now, the software for FTP is called FileZilla, you can download it here and it’s free.

Step THREE:
Once you’ve connected and uploaded your file to your server, you can now give the link to your intended people.
Just note that if you’ve uploaded to /public_html/files/myfile.pdf on the right window of filezilla, your link would be www.myowndomain.com/files/myfile.pdf. This is assuming you own www.MyOwnDomain.com, of course.

Okay, I hope this helps a little. :)
Stay in touch.

P.S. I welcome more questions. I want to answer them. :)

Technical Coach Series: Linking

Thursday, March 20th, 2008

Okay,

answering axileon’s question on linking.
Basically, what you should know is that there are namely two types of links.
One-way and Two-way(Reciprocal).

Both are very straight forward.
For the one-way, it is just some one linking to you without you linking to them.

Two-way links or reciprocal links are two websites exchanging links to the other.

Alot of the linking strategies are for SEO purposes. For example if you link to me using :
Technical Coach
There would be a higher chance when you type in [Technical Coach] inside Google, I would rank higher for that.

Of cos, due to the huge benefits of linking, whether in SEO or for traffic, people tend to abuse it.
Some of the things that people use is LinkMetro.com. I explored this when I first started Internet Marketing.
Well, you can subscribe for the paid service to have automatic linking done.

But the issue is that quality links are hard to come by. Think of it from this perspective: if 100 thousand drug addicts says that John is credible and very trustworthy, you will not trust John to be so right? On the contrary, if the MM Lee says that Ming Chern is very smart and handsome, you’ll definitely think so. So you see, it is not about the number of links, it is about the quality.

So in the beginning, how to make people link to you? Well, there is a few ways. To start things off, you will need a credible website. Once you provide good content to your readers, people will not mind linking to you. You may find similar websites that complement your niche and you link to them first. Then you can send them an email saying that you’ve linked to them because of good quality content in their site. The rest of the email should ask for an exchange so as to benefit the other person’s readers.

As you proceed onwards in your niche, you should be fast becoming an expert in your niche, so naturally, people will start linking to you just because of your content. :)

Hope this answers Axileon’s questions.
More later.

Fined $150 and 6 demerit points and it’s all my fault!

Monday, March 17th, 2008

Yup, it’s entirely my fault. I’m not going to deny it. I was stopped by the traffic police for careless driving.
Now, before you think further on whether I was doing some drink driving. Nope it isn’t.

Let me explain…

I was driving down to Dennis Wee Toastmasters Club together with Benjamin & Rachit.
As I was turning out of the carpark into the main road, I stared out with difficulty as the blaring sun was shining into my eye.

Well, little did I notice was that the traffic police motocycle was passing by.
What happened was, I didn’t really notice some other motocycles was also coming to a stop near the traffic light.
As I turned out of the junction, I made it come to a stop.

The policemen saw this and gave me a ticket. The ironic thing was, I thought it was because Ben & Rachit didn’t put on the seat belts yet! Ha! What irony… :(

In any case, during such situations, people would curse and complain about the sun and everything and curse and moan to the traffic police on giving 2nd chances. Well, I guess it’s really up to us to take what was thrown to us. Things come into our way, causing ripples and obstructions to what we want to achieve.

Now, it is really up to us to concentrate at obstruction and stop looking at the solution. Or we can start looking at solutions and look at it as a lesson learned. I hope this little incident can shed some light on how we can handle difficult situations. :)

Cheers to all!

Ming Chern

P.S. While I’ve learnt my lesson, I’m still hoping for an appeal and save that $150! :p Looking for solutions rite? muahahhaha…

Winners, Waiters, Wishers

Tuesday, March 11th, 2008

Yup. There are the WWW. Nope, not world wide web, but winners, wishers & waiters. I was discussing it with the IM Team and we chanced upon this as a term for Ben’s complimentary preview.

We kinda defined people who wants success in their lifes, whether in Internet Marketing, Networkin Marketing, Business, Trading, etc. It doesn’t really matter. They pretty much can be defined into the WWW. Let me just explain this more.

Winners:
These people are go-getters. They do whatever it takes to make things happen. Yes, they may fail at times, but they change their strategy. They consult new strategies and they implement them. They make friends with the right people. They get mentored, etc. Yes, they people deserve success. I’m sure you’ve seen people who’re like this.

Waiters:
These people are not that bad. They wait to see success or failure. If some one have a success, they wait to see if they fail. They wait for a lot of things. It’s most probably when the people they see around have huge roaring success before they jump onto the bandwagon. The only issue is, sometimes, the wave have passed and it’s too late. It’s always due to “WAIT and see” attitude.

Wishers:
Alright, these people are well, for the lack of a better word: losers. They look around, they see success. They read some ebooks, they ask around. But the thing is, they never implement any strategy. They WISH they have a million dollars, they WISH they can do this, they WISH they can do that.

That’s pretty much what we’ve discussed. Hope this helped a little bit. Also, it seems like everytime I post, I have to apologise for the lack of blogging. It’s pretty busy times with my Internet Marketing at AKLTG. 6-7 figures is not easy, that’s why I’m pushing forth. I’m working on the new product that will blow competition away. See you around!
